OHMS Updates: Viewer version 3.6.3 / OHMS App version 3.0.1

We have launched a new development cycle for OHMS (Oral History Metadata Synchronizer) that will have some minor and some major updates coming in the next few months. The first of the updates have been released. 

OHMS Viewer v 3.6.3

• Improved footnote feature in the transcript view.  Added search and hover features with footnotes.

• Disabled and removed the transcript / index toggle when there was only one entity present. In the past versions of the viewer, the toggle would allow users to toggle to an element even when that element was present.

If an interview was indexed, but not transcribed, the user would see “Transcript” as an option, toggle to that option and see a blank page. In version 3.6.3 of the OHMS Viewer, the toggle does not appear if there is only a transcript or only an index present.  The toggle appears when both entities are present. If the familiar toggle disappears from your viewer, it only means that there is nothing to toggle between just yet. Once you add an index or a transcript, the toggle will reappear.

• Added “Exhibit” mode to the Viewer.  Exhibit mode allows the viewer to be configured in a mode that will stop the audio and video at the end of an index segment and then close the segment window.

OHMS Application 3.0.1

• Reorganized the tagging and transcript synchronization windows. We have incorporated the audio and video players into these windows and improved the layout of both views. Earlier versions of the tagging window popped up in front of the media player. which proved inconvenient, especially for indexing video as the tagging window obscured view of the player and the time code. Similarly, the player was included in the transcript synchronization module as well.

• Ability to create an index for offline audio and video. OHMS now has the capability to create an index for audio and video that is played by your local media player. Prior to this release, OHMS required that the audio and video be online and linkable in order to create an index. Now, users can simply play an audio or video file on their computer and create an index, manually typing in the time code for the index segment.
• Minor fixes pertaining to indexes and transcripts with diacritics and special characters. Fixed issue where in index keywords or subjects containing diacritics would disappear under certain conditions.
• Adjusted OHMS XML import mapping so “Acknowledgement” field would be imported and mapped appropriately when importing an OHMS XML file.
• Updates to the preview version (See Viewer updates v.3.6.3).

As always when updating your OHMS Viewer, I recommend backing up your cachefiles directory and your config.ini file as a precaution. In order to see the changes in the OHMS Application, you may need to log out and log back in and you may need to clear your browser cache in order to see the changes.
